Our team have a specialism in creating flexible mobile workspaces that can be designed and fitted out with specialist equipment to meet client requirements. These units can be designed to be deployed anywhere in the world by either air, land, or sea, in hot and arid or sub-zero climates.
This specific project involved the design of a series of mobile modules to house a bespoke workshop and maintenance facility which could be deployed worldwide. To cater for the wide range of climates and temperature extremes, these modules were insulated and fitted with specialist extraction, vents, and filters to accommodate the environment. Working to the project design specification, we were responsible for designing and integrating systems within these modules.
We produced three-dimensional engineering models that were appraised for ergonomics and reviewed for clash detection between systems. We not only assessed the final operational concept but considered the construction of the modules and the replacement of each system and component. If a generator or pump were to fail in a minus 30-degree environment and the only option is to replace a component, it is vitally important that an access hatch or bulkhead can be removed without the need of oxygen, acetylene and specialist cutting equipment.
We added valve by using our expertise to design interfaces and mounting solutions that could be flexible, standardised and be used on for a variety of system applications. This brought the benefit of simplifying the design and manufacturing processes and allow the modules to be customised and future-proofed.
From the 3D models we produced 2D manufacturing and assembly drawings. These drawings were linked and automated such that late changes in specification would automatically be translated through to the manufacturing details. A design error during the manufacturing stage could be detrimental in both time and cost. Our responsibility extended to the overseeing and management of the manufacturing and commissioning process.
