BIM or Building Information Modelling is becoming standard practice with many clients, especially those that are governed by public procurement processes. Whilst there are costs associated with this additional process during the initial stages of a contract, the benefits far outweigh the additional investment. The benefits of 3D modelling are well known, especially when trying to visualise complex construction and how elements fit together. BIM takes this process further and allows key information to be linked and stored within the model. It should be noted however, that BIM is more about the process than the model itself.
Whilst at ReSolv3D® we do not profess to be BIM experts, we can help and assist you in developing your overall BIM strategy. One element of the BIM environment is the ability to have and navigate a model. We are able to develop this 3D model and subsequently link this to both programme (4D) and Cost (5D). We can run visualisations to demonstrate how the construction sequence can be brought to life in line with the programme and expenditure of cost.
Got the sequence wrong, not an issue; unlike the potential on-site costs if something starts too early or out of sequence, options and scenarios can be reviewed to ensure that resources are not working in the same area as other trades or works are not being undertaken that potentially cause health and safety concerns.
3D BIM animations have been referred to as Hollywood BIM by some, but used correctly this tool is extremely powerful and can be used to check for clash detection within the model; used to compare As Built progress against the original Baseline; and with complex programmes and construction methods, used to explain the sequence. A tool that can be invaluable during tender presentations or as part of a bid.
